FREESAT FROM SATELLITE ?

FREESAT FROM SATELLITE ?

FREESAT FROM SATELLITE or 28.2 East is gradually taking hold or is it ?

Saturday proved a strange day for us as we conducted what we will call a straw poll with shoppers at our local Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsburys.
**********
We decided to ask only two freesat questions;
No1
Do you own a freesat set top box ?
No2
Would you buy a freesat set top box knowing afterwards there are no monthly fees ?
***********
The answers we received were wide and varied and covered everything except what our two questions were although we stuck to our guns for an answer.
Some thought we were selling stuff and/or wanting something from them.
Out of 400 different shoppers young and old only 10 had ever heard about the BBC/ITV joint venture.
We put this down to poor advertising.
Out of 400 different shoppers who suscribed to a satellite subscription service all were in favour of buying a freesat set top box. A few were unsure if it meant their sport was threatened but still liked the idea of free TV with no monthly fees.
What we learned;
Freesat future subscribers are looking for free TV and trying to tell future viewers all would be free many were openly scepticle and some stating they will only believe it when they see it.
Women liked the idea of being able to use existing dishes to connect the freesat box as it was free. Women hate paying for subscription TV and would cancel everything tomorrow whereas men will gladly pay for subscription TV as long as their subscription has some sort of sport in it.
One lady told us the only reason she has an existing satellite subscription is because the ordinary TV has little to watch and too few channels but since hearing about freesat she was going to cancel her subscription as this was all the excuse she needed. We argued she could still keep her subscription and have the best of both worlds but she pointed out the old chestnut, "you can only watch one channel at a time". Without any doubt whatsoever
women are more shrewdly aware than men as far as freesat is concerned.

FREESAT HD SET TOP BOX SHORTAGE.

FREESAT HD SET TOP BOX SHORTAGE again
as freesat boxes are in great demand.

We would like to point out that the Humax freesat box has NOT, repeat NOT been recalled.
Rumours abound because the retailers have again run short in some areas so please do not believe the malicious rumours, obviously spread about by those in envy of the Humax Foxsat demand in the high street and on the Internet.
The Humax is a top quality freesat set top box, which if you buy it will not regret it. Anyone buying ANY freesat box should be under no illusion that all boxes have underwent rigourous testing to make sure they met the standards requested by the BBC and ITV and all the rest of the shareholders.
All freesat boxes are top quality and it will be up to the individual taste which box will be bought for the individuals sitting room and it's also worth remembering with these freesat set top boxes ALL have "Set it and Forget it", features.

Will this concept TV be available for future freesat channels? Only time will tell.

HUMAX HOME MEDIA SERVER.

Humax: We see that the digital TV will be the most important medium. Not only for entertainment, but also for information especially for the European market. Panasonic Viera, TH-42PZ81, TH-46PZ81, TH-50PZ81 FREESAT TV.

Panasonic Viera,
TH-42PZ81, TH-46PZ81, TH-50PZ81

First details about the new range of FREESAT TV's have started to emerge and excitement is starting to build for the first FREESAT Enabled HDTV SET.
Image quality is what this latest Panasonic is all about with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, which means high definition 1080p
sources are displayed with pixel sharpness and clarity assured.
This Panasonic will also accept a 1080p 24Hz signal and display it without converting it to 60Hz using the new Real Cinema technology so I for one
can't wait to really test this screen out later. With 100Hz processing, x-v-Colour wide gamut processing there's a lot going on here with no less than three HDMI 1.3 ports and more connections than onw would know what to do with. Panasonic has also included an SD card slot that is normally found in their top spec TV's,
and can only play back JPEG images also included is the AVCHD capability of high definition footage for example taking it direct from a camcorder.
One of the most interesting features of this FREESAT ENABLED TV is the fact this Panasonic TV has no less that three onboard TV tuners
and with multi-satellite compatibility making this Panasonic FREESAT ENABLED TV with Full HD Resolution of 1920 x 1080 a worlds first.
More information to follow soon!

MULTIMEDIA COST AND BT's 21st CENTURY NETWORK PROJECT.

MULTIMEDIA COST AND BT's 21st CENTURY NETWORK PROJECT.

MULTIMEDIA COST FROM FREESAT IS SET TO BECOME A ROASTING HOT POTATO AND NOT BECAUSE OF MULTIMEDIA COOKING PROGRAMMES BUT FOR OTHER MORE OBVIOUS PICTURES.
KANGAROO/iPOWER IS A PROJECT THAT MEETS EVERYBODY'S IDEA OF PERFECT TV POSSIBILITY'S.
WE TOOK ANOTHER LOOK AT THE UNSEEN COST BUT IT MUST COME TO THE FOREFRONT AS BT's 21st CENTURY NETWORK PROJECT APPROACHES COMPLETION IN AND AROUND 2012.
LOOK AT THE FIGURES, FOR EXAMPLE BT's BASIC PACKAGE AND THEIR FAIR AND ACCEPTABLE USAGE POLICY (FUP) WHICH IS 5GB AND ANYTHING AFTER THIS GETS THROTTLED.
ANYONE USING THE BT INTERNET TO DOWNLOAD AND VIEW HIGH DEFINITION (HD) MAY WELL BE SURPRISED TO HEAR THAT THEIR FUP WILL TRIGGER AFTER 15 MINUTES OF USE.
WE ALREADY KNOW THAT THE BBC RESEARCH AND INNOVATION TEAM HAVE DEVISED A NEW COMPRESSION METHOD WHICH HOPEFULLY ADRESS'S THIS MASSIVE ISP HEADACHE. WE WATCH WITH GREAT INTEREST AS THIS MEDIA PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BE ADOPTED IN COUNTRIES LIKE THE U.S.A.
ALTHOUGH IMPOSSIBLE BUT TO GIVE ISP USERS AN IDEA OF THE ASTRONOMICAL BANDWIDTH NEEDED TO WATCH AN AVERAGE MONTHS VIEWING IN HIGH DEFINITION (HD), THE AVERAGE TV USER WATCHES FOR APPROX. 5 HOURS A DAY AND IF THAT USER WAS CONTINUALLY WATCHING HD ON THE INTERNET THE BANDWIDTH NEED FOR 1 MONTHS VIEWING WOULD BE APPROX. 3900 GB. WHICH IS EQUIVALANT TO 780 BASIC BT USER PACKAGES USING 5 GB PER MONTH.
FREESAT PUSH-VIDEO HERE WE COME!

HEROES BBC AUDIO NARRATION.

HEROES BBC AUDIO NARRATION is very, very impressive.

After hearing so much about Heroes, the smash hit series from America we had to have an Audio Narration trial.
The Humax Foxsat audio control on the Humax Foxsat remote works perfectly to change from stereo to this superb audio narration feature.
We started watching in normal stereo ( brilliant sound) and then changed to audio narration, sat back and closed our eyes and we were there in the scenes with the characters the audio narration quality is excellent and there is no doubt in the listeners mind exactly what is going on. There was a part with English subtitles with the parts spoken in Japanese and the audio narration handled the section with no obvious time slips. What a huge difference this will make in many viewers lives and yet again our BBC research and innovation team can take a bow for bringing those who need to feel part of the visual experience a step closer.
One only has to hear the audio narration in action to appreciate the work and effort that has gone into this added set top box unique freesat extra. TV for some will never be the same again.
Thank you BBC for adding this feature into the metadata, those amongst us who are blind and partially sited will be thrilled when proper educational information is released about this excellent metadata feature.

BEIJING OLYMPICS COUNTDOWN.

BEIJING OLYMPICS COUNTDOWN starts today for the BBC Freesat Beijing Olympics coverage from Friday 8th of August 2008 until Sunday 24th of August.
The seven hour time difference from GMT means while we sleep another session of sporting competition will be in full swing.
It would be wrong to mention the Beijing Olympics without mentioning the awful hardship being faced by many after the Earthquake and like all nations our hearts go out to the people of China at this time.
The Olympics are one way of nations coming together for understanding and friendship and many new stars are born at these world class events. Who could forget Mark Spitz winning 7 gold medals in the 1972 Olympics.
The countdown to the Beijing Olympics starts today marking 70 days or ten weeks tomorrow is the opening ceremony.
We have our front seat booked with our Freesat boxes set for BBC HD, roll on the 8'th August 2008. DO YOU ?

HUMAX FOXSAT SEARCH FUNCTION.

HUMAX FOXSAT FREESAT SET TOP BOX SEARCH FUNCTION.

Humax Foxsat is starting to show some nice little hidden touches which we have no doubt will keep active remote control fans overjoyed.
A nice little search function is housed within the "Guide" menu. Wait until the guide menu gets loaded (the picture reflects through from behind) the press O.K. and along the top of the menu select the blue button which says "Find". You then get a menu with;
Keyboard
Genre
Time & Day
Search
Highlighting Keyword with the word "All" in it and pressing O.K. brings up an individual programme search menu via switchable SMS & Keyboard...clever Humax touch!
The more we look at the Humax Foxsat menu, the more we are convinced we have still to see more. These nice little keyboard and SMS pads are very clever in their design and regular use of them can only be self educating for those who intend to make full use of the future multimedia functions from the metadata and as multimedia is implemented the Humax Foxsat user will be fully conversant with the clever SMS and keyboard menu.

HUMAX FOXSATHD PICTURE QUALITY.

HUMAX FOXSATHD FREESAT SET TOP BOX picture quality enhancements.

While everybody is concerned about the content management being implemented in the Humax Foxsat component connection we have been surprised that nobody has mentioned the enhanced picture quality which we can only suggest may have been implemented into the 1.07 Humax Foxsat update.
We have found that by switching off as described in the content management splash screen the suggestion of switching off the analogue HD output the HD and the HD upscaling has improved.
The colours are more vivid and the picture quality seems much clearer so either the Humax Foxsat picture has been enhanced or the switching off, of the HD analogue connection has improved the Humax Foxsat HD picture and also the HD upscaling.
