FREESAT FREE TV CHANNELS.

FREESAT FREE TV CHANNELS.

FREESAT FREE TV CHANNELS are just some of the benefits for those fortunate enough to have decided they want free tv. We have looked at the host of different channels and during our regular straw polls we ask questions that others probably would not answer. You may agree with our findings especially if you are one of the growing mass buying freesat equipment. Although we are commenting on freesat it should be mentioned that many viewers are contented and happy to pay a subscription every month and even those viewers who pay for channels that you can get on freesat or Freeview for nothing. As freesat grows slowly we take a look at some of the channels and for those contemplating getting freesat or freesat equipment here are just some of the channels, For Mums the first thing has to be the excellent selection of childrens channels; CBBC Channel CBeebies CITV POP POPGirl Tiny POP Kix! ********** Next selection we went for the News channels which everybody uses.; BBC News BBC Parliament S4C 2 NHKWORLD TV Al Jazeera Eng. Euronews France 24 Russia Today CNN Bloomberg TV ********** Free films next.; Film 4 Film 4 + 1 True Movies True Movies 2 Movies4Men Movies4Men 2 Simply Movies ********** Channels we all have come to know and enjoy are also on freesat; ie; BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 4+1, Channel 5, BBC 3, BBC 4, ITV 2, ITV 2+1, ITV 3, ITV 3+1, ITV 4, ITV 4+1, E4, E4+1, More 4, More 4+1, Dending on your region you will get your regional news and for those wishing to view and listen to other BBC regional news broadcasts you can tune your freesat equipment to what is called non-freesat channels - this comes in handy when you want to view those football matches which are not broadcast, example being Scotland and England playing important Cup games. The freesat channel providers have also taken the trouble to broadcast ITV London and what this means is that those viewers with HD (high definition) equipment can view channels in HD if the broadcaster broadcasts them simply view ITV London. This overcomes the problem of some parts of the U.K. not broadcasting in HD. There is nothing to top outside broadcasts in HD, such as nature and sporting events, BBC HD cannot be beaten for nature programmes such as the stunning "Planet Earth", and ITV football coverage in HD draws you into the stadium. More and more viewers we have spoken to had little idea about freesat until they started seeing the recent adverts, one Lady asked us why they had been keeping it a secret? Our opinion; Freesat has been introduced at the right time as the country is counting pennies, who would have thought thirty years ago that britain would have over 100 channels when it took years to allow channel 5 into the terrestrial bouquet making five channels. We are hoping soon that the rest of the channel 5 family will be joining freesat. For those still undecided about freesat, consider the price, ie; the total cost is your equipment and no subscription except your annual licence fee. If you are in the subscription camp, consider how much you have spent over the last 10 years or how many hours you have viewed that same old same old. At present our licence fees are being wisely used, let's hope it remains so.

BBC FREESAT HD EASES ENCRYPTION RULES.

BBC FREESAT HD EASES ENCRYPTION RULES.

BBC FREESAT HD IS EXPECTED TO EASE THEIR ENCRYPTION ON HD programming very soon.
This comes after many complaints about the BBC HD channel being encrypted and impossible to copy onto dedicated recorders. Copy barring is in place for films and certain drama's and American shows and we are led to believe that these will not change so it looks like the recent Masters would have been a good target to make a copy.

LG ENABLED FREESAT TVS - 47LF7700, 42LF7700, 37LF7700, 32LF7700 NOW AVAILABLE.

LG has just launched Freesat enabled TVs in the form of an 47, 42, 37 and 32 inch models. These new model LG Freesat TVs now take on last years Freesat TV winners Panasonic first reported on this Blog. One thing we don't like is the pricing of these Freesat enabled TVs the RRP of the base model is an incredible £700 where the non Freesat Enabled TV might be less than £400 it makes one wonder why it should cost so much of a premium to have it inside the TV rather than just using an external Freesat HD Digital Box instead and saving at least £200 in the process makes much more sense in today's economic climate. The LG Flagship model retails at an whopping £1400 and takes on the superb Panny 46inch Plasma at under £1100 the choice is yours? The LG Freesat TVs are now available to order!

BBC TRUST REVIEW OF LICENCE FEES.

BBC TRUST REVIEW OF LICENCE FEES.

31 March 2009

The BBC Trust today published the findings of its wide-ranging review into how the licence fee is collected. The report assesses whether current collection arrangements are efficient, appropriate and proportionate. Overseeing the arrangements is a new responsibility for the BBC's governing body, which held a public consultation as part of the review process.

Sir Michael Lyons, Chairman of the BBC Trust, said:

"In collecting the licence fee, the BBC must balance firmness with fairness. The main findings of this review are that TV Licensing needs to improve the tone of its early dealings with the public, especially households that do not have TV sets. At the same time, TV Licensing should do more to target the minority of hard core evaders to make sure that everyone who should pay, does pay.

"The Trust wants to ensure that, for the vast majority of people who pay the licence fee, the process is as simple and convenient as possible. We would like to see payment plans simplified, especially for people on low incomes. We need to discuss the practical options of this with both BBC management and the Government, which sets and regulates the payment plan rules.

"We are asking BBC management to act on all our recommendations and bring an action plan to us within three months. We expect them to look for continued improvements in collection arrangements and will review and approve their strategy annually."

The Trust praises the work the BBC has done since it took over responsibility for licence fee collection from the Home Office in 1991. The evasion rate has dropped from 12.7% to 5.1% but the decline has now levelled off. The Trust welcomes savings of £43.5 million in collection costs since 2006/07 but recommends that the BBC should put more emphasis on targeted enforcement, even if this leads to modest additional cost.

Although the Trust recognises concerns raised in the public consultation about the ending of over-the-counter licence fee payments at Post Offices, it concludes that the switch to PayPoint has increased the number of outlets and offers better value for money.

The Trust's review records a clear public view that the tone of reminder letters is too harsh. Only a third of those who responded to the public consultation thought that communications met the stated aim of being clear and concise, polite but firm. The Trust calls on BBC management to ensure that early reminders meet these requirements and are non-accusatory in tone. However, the Trust endorses the policy of sending a strong message in later letters to deter evasion, coupled with professional and determined enforcement.

Although the range of payment methods offered is considered satisfactory for the vast majority of licence fee payers, the Trust recommends further discussion over instalment schemes requiring up front payments, which may present a barrier to those on low incomes.

In the public consultation, strong views were expressed about communications with households that do not have a TV set or other equipment to watch live broadcasts. At present, such households are not obliged to let TV Licensing know but, unless they do so, they continue to receive letters and may be visited by an enforcement officer. Only a third of those who responded to the consultation thought this policy was appropriate.

The Trust has called on TV Licensing to introduce easier notification arrangements for households without TV sets, together with improvements to the tone and content of standard letters on this matter. It also recommends a review of procedures to minimise the risk of errors when recording households that have provided notification that they do not have a TV set. However, the Trust notes that enforcement officers subsequently discover sets in 27% of households that claim not to have one.

Looking at the future of licence fee collection, the Trust highlights issues raised by recent advances in the way people access television content, including the BBC iPlayer. It calls for clearer communication on the legal requirement for a TV licence to view live internet streaming on PCs or mobile devices.

Publication of the report follows an extensive public consultation carried out between September and November last year. More than 4,000 members of the public, audience groups and other interested parties expressed their views. The Trust also commissioned audience research among people including new migrants to the UK, low income groups and those with no TVs. Arrangements were compared with those of other agencies including the DVLA, a local authority and a utility company.

FREESAT ADVERTISING AT LONG LAST - 1st April 2009.

FREESAT ADVERTISING AT LONG LAST - 1st April 2009.
FREESAT ARE AT LAST STARTING TO ADVERTISE on the ITV tonight during the football. Many have been amazed at the time it has taken for advertising to be made for the joint venture of BBC and ITV. We can expect two adverts to rubber stamp freesat, and not before time. Freesat is a winner as far as choice is concerned and even without the benefits of HD viewers can still enjoy free TV.
