MHEG is the name of the "Multimedia and Hypermedia information coding Expert Group". Liasons are between the Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG), the Digital Storage Media Group (DSM) and the DSM Command and Control (DSM-CC).
MHEG provides an interchange format for multimedia and hypermedia information and its machine independent encoding for real time multimedia applications, synchronization and interchange of applications. This includes temporal and spatial relationships between monomedia objects and user interaction mechanisms. MHEG is also a container and description format for each kind of monomedia data;
example; bitmaps, text, video, audio.
Interoperability and reusability is one of the key issues for the success of digital and interactive television systems.
